Why the Best Marketing Happens Offline (or in the Comments)

In the last four articles we’ve covered building your digital" engine" - the legals, the LinkedIn profiles, the website and your authority pieces.

But here is the Honest Marketer truth: You can have the slickest website in the UK, but if nobody knows the person behind it, you’re just another URL.

To wrap up our series, we’re talking about the most powerful tool in your kit: The Human Element.

1. Networking: From "Silent Attendee" to"Strategic Connector"

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: don’t just show up and stand by the coffee machine.

  • The "Elevator Story" (Not the Pitch): In 2026, people are bored of pitches. Instead of saying "I’m a marketer," try "I help new business owners stop stressing about their websites so they can focus on their clients." Focus on the outcome, not the job title.

  • The "Four-Ears" Rule: Go into every event, whether it's a local Chamber of Commerce breakfast or a huge industry expo, with the goal of finding two people you can help. Maybe you know a great bookkeeper they need, or you’ve just read an article that solves their specific headache.

  • The Tech shortcut: Ditch the dog-eared paper cards. Have your LinkedIn QR code or a digital business card ready on your phone lock screen. It’s faster, eco-friendly and ensures you’re connected instantly.

2. Being a "Digital Neighbour"

Networking doesn't stop when you leave the room. It continues in the LinkedIn feed.

  • Post-and-Ghost is a No-Go: If you post an update, stick around for 20 minutes to reply to comments.

  • The Power of the Thoughtful Comment: Spend 10 minutes a day commenting on the posts of people you admire or potential clients. Don't just say "Great post!"; add a perspective or ask a smart follow-up question. This is how you become a "familiar face" before the first meeting is even booked.

3. The "Follow-Up" Fortune

Most people are great at the "Meet" but terrible at the "Follow-Up."

  • The 24-Hour Rule: Send a personalised LinkedIn request within 24 hours of meeting. Mention something specific you talked about - like the weirdly good pasteries or their upcoming holiday. It proves you were actually listening.

4. You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

The "solo" in solopreneur can feel very literal sometimes. The highs are higher when you have someone to celebrate with, and the lows are shorter when you have a sounding board.

How I Can Help (The "Doing" Part)

I’m more than just a marketer; I’m a partner in your business growth. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the"rollercoaster," let’s chat.

  • The Strategy: I can be your Business Sounding Board to talk through ideas and define your objectives.

  • The Plan: We can build a Marketing Plan that actually fits your life.

  • The Doing: I can take the weight off by building your website, writing your articles, managing your LinkedIn presence and even attending events with you.

The Honest Truth Your business isn't just about what you sell; it’s about the community you build around it.

Ready to find your feet and grow your tribe? Whether you need a sounding board for your strategy or someone to handle the"marketing do," I’m here to help you move from "just started" to "thriving."
